Pranic Healing, also known as energy healing or spiritual healing, is a technique that restores the natural flow of prana, the universal life energy. Prana moves through the koshas—the physical body, energy body, and soul. When this energy flow is disrupted, it can lead to imbalances that affect physical, emotional, and spiritual balance. Pranic healing aims to release these blockages and restore harmony by reactivating the flow of life energy at multiple levels. The pranic healer must be capable of knowing these levels and how to influence them.
The Intelligence of Prana
Yogic science has investigated prana in every form, we have to aknowledge that we will never understand prana fully. Our own life and consciouseness depends on prana. That we can move our body is a miracle itself. When prana is blocked or in inbalance we will recognize it and it can lead to unease, fatigue, anxiety, or spiritual disconnection. Pranic healing addresses these challenges by working holistically on all aspects of prana in different levels.
Prana in the body
In yogic philosophy, prana manifests through the five vayus, which are responsible for specific physiological and energetic functions in the body.
- Prana Vayu: Located in the chest, this governs inhalation, heart function, and energy intake. Its imbalance can cause respiratory or cardiac issues, as well as feelings of lethargy. People have then mostly pain in the heart chakra.
- Apana Vayu: Centered in the lower abdomen, this controls elimination and grounding. An imbalance here may result in digestive problems or a sense of disconnection from reality.
- Samana Vayu: Found around the navel, this balances digestion and assimilation. Disruption can cause indigestion, poor energy distribution, or feelings of being stuck.
- Udana Vayu: Situated in the throat and head, it governs speech, thought, and upward energy flow. An imbalance might lead to communication issues, brain fog, or a lack of purpose.
- Vyana Vayu: Pervading the entire body, this manages circulation and energy distribution. When disrupted, one might experience poor circulation or uncoordinated movement.
In pranic healing, the practitioner works on these vayus to restore balance and address specific issues. By reactivating proper flow, they help harmonize the interconnected systems of the body and energy field. The pranic healer does this with touching the body and pushing kundalini energy to tehse areas.
Techniques of Pranic Healing
In my tradition of spiritual healing from Nepal, we use yogic, tantric and shamanic techniques to improve the flow of prana. These include:
- Harnessing Kundalini Energy: By awakening and directing kundalini energy, the healer works to unblock and rejuvenate energy pathways across the koshas. The koshas are defined as our inner dimensions in Yoga.
- Healing Rituals: Using objects rich in life force, like fresh flowers or fruits, healers conduct rituals to reinforce the movement of prana. These objects are then offered in combination with fire rituals. Fire is a force to clean pranic energy.
- Balancing Through the Gunas: Understanding the interplay of sattva (purity), rajas (activity), and tamas (inertia) is key in the tantric aspect of pranic healing. If someone experiences tamasic energy—feeling stagnant or lethargic—rajasic mantras might be used to energize the flow of prana. Conversely, overly rajasic energy, such as nervousness or hyperactivity, can be balanced with tamasic mantras to bring calmness.
Why Pranic Healing Matters
In my experience as a spiritual healer, I have found that prana is not just vital to life—it is life itself. We rely on it as much as the entire universe does. So respect and egoless work is the main thing when we want to work with prana. We should never think that we are so powerful to fully control prana. Pranic healing, or energy balance therapy, is not only a path to wellness but a journey of self-discovery and reconnection with the universe.
